Quanex Celebrates 45 Years of Extruding Excellence

Date: 15 May 2014

Quanex Building Products and its employees have been at the forefront of advancing the fenestration industry since 1969 when Mikron was founded in Kent, Washington.

The Mikron side of the business was founded on quality, integrity and knowledge – three core beliefs that drive all Quanex businesses today.

“As we reach the 45-year mark, we are taking the time to reflect on the quality and entrepreneurial spirit that built this company and moving forward to have positive impacts on the future for our industry and for our customers,” said Tom Herriges, general manager, Quanex Building Products. “Our commitment to quality has never been greater.”

Throughout the 1970s, leadership in Kent, Washington, pioneered the use of vinyl in the new construction market to meet stringent building code requirements on the West Coast. In the years since, as they expanded across North America and into the Repair and Remodel Residential markets, the company has also revolutionized vinyl color technologies with SuperCapSR™ and SuperCoat™ and vinyl profiles with MikronBlend®, MikronWood® and the patented AirCell™ technology that improves thermal efficiency over hollow and manually foam-filled vinyl.

“These accomplishments over the years can only be credited to our employees and our customers, both of who are among the best in the industry,” Herriges said. “It’s their passion that makes all of the difference.”

Employee Grant Muller, product sales specialist, has a unique perspective on Quanex’s history – and future.

“Before joining Mikron 14 years ago, I had the opportunity to visit many window manufacturers and was also a customer buying vinyl profiles,” Muller said.  “Even then, I could identify which profiles came from Mikron based on visible differences in surface quality. Today, that holds true as we maintain our high regard for quality and are striving to take the industry to the next level of excellence.”

Throughout 2014, Quanex will celebrate 45 years in the extrusion business with employees and customers.
