Alteos interactive window systems by PPG Aerospace are the world’s first electrochromic window systems for commercial aircraft passenger cabins, according to Tom Clark, PPG Aerospace general manager for transparencies. The PPG Aerospace display with operating Alteos interactive window systems in cabin windows is at Hall 2B, Stand D57.The International Paris Air Show is June 15-21 at Le Bourget Exhibition Centre.
“Visitors can have the passenger experience with Alteos interactive window systems inside a simulated aircraft cabin,” Clark said. “Like passengers, they can interact with the system to select the amount of light transmitted through the windows from a clear state to a dark state, or an intermediate level.”
Alteos interactive window systems are designed to replace pull-down, mechanical and other types of shades for enhanced passenger comfort, interior aesthetics and aircraft operating efficiency, Clark said. They use electrochromic technology developed by Gentex Corp. PPG is supplying Alteos interactive window systems for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet and 2010 Hawker Beechcraft King Air 350i airplane, he said.
“We are finding enthusiastic reception for Alteos interactive window systems in discussions with numerous aircraft manufacturers about how to integrate them on new and existing aircraft,” Clark said. “They are exciting components for aviation because they enable aircraft interior designers to move away from pull-down and other shade systems to an advanced interactive system that complements the advanced interior design of the airplane.”
