Piramal Glass ‘bags’ gold and silver at National Business Excellence Awards 2010

It was yet another “feather in their cap” for Piramal Glass who pursue excellence in all their endeavours when they were honoured with both a gold as well as a silver award at the National Business Excellence awards 2010, awarded by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL).

This is the 7th consecutive award ceremony held by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, which demonstrates the Chambers commitment towards the development of local industry, by encouraging and rewarding the contributors to the economy through exemplary business practices.The continuous growth of the company during the past three years was recognised by them being presented with the Gold Award in the Chemical & Ceramic Sector, as well as the Silver Award in the Best Tech - Savvy Company sector.The awards were made by evaluating factors such as Business & Financial Performance, Global Reach, Technological Investment, Performance Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, Corporate Governance and other key drivers.

“Piramal Glass is a technology driven company. We have a team of highly skilled engineering staff who undergo continuous, in-house on the job training, as well as regular overseas training. The company continuously invests in purchasing and upgrading its machinery to keep up with international norms. All this emphasises the company’s ideology of striving to be a state of the art, cutting edge technology, said CEO and Managing Director of Piramal Glass, Sanjay Tiwari.

Tiwari went on to say that the Company’s management felt that these two awards were a testament to the bold and courageous step Piramal Glass took in 2006 by investing over Rs. 4 billion in a new, state of the art glass plant at Horana under the auspices of the “300 factory programme of Mahinda Chinthana“.

“This investment helped the Company to double its capacity, thus enabling it to successfully achieve its goal of selling its additional capacity in the international shores, thereby increasing export tonnage from 1,200 tons to 26,000 tons in just 3 years”.

During the year Piramal Glass achievements were also recognized with a Gold Award at the 18th National Chamber of Exporters Awards, as well as a Merit Award at the 9th CNCI Achiever Awards.
