Major (retd) Tariq Baig, owner of Tariq Glass Industry, told reporters that his company is now targeting the international market after gaining expertise in producing quality glass tableware. Mr Baig did not give details about the value of glassware so far exported, saying the figure is insignificant but it has opened new vistas for the company as the country has so far exported this item to Afghanistan and the UAE. We are now preparing to target Far East Asian countries to fully utilize its production capacity, he said. Mr Baig said the glass industry is a highly fuel intensive and cost of fuel play a vital role in determining glassware prices, adding fuel prices have continued to escalate in the country in the last ten years. High input cost is depriving the industry to stay competitive at the international market, he added.
