O-I completes purchase of European glass plants

Owens-Illinois Inc. said yesterday it completed the previously announced sale of two European glass plants to Vidrala SA of Alava, Spain.

O-I had agreed to sell its plants in Barcelona, and Corsico, Italy, in order to get the European Commission's approval for O-I's acquisition last year of BSN Glasspack SA.The Toledo firm said it would use the $180 million from the sale to repay bank debt or to reinvest in its plants.
