The full text, available here, is meant to solve certain deadlocks in the CPR-related standardisation process and align the sector with EU digital and sustainability objectives.
The CPR will enter into force on 7 January 2025, with most provisions applying from 8 January 2026. Certain articles will directly take effect and permit the immediate start of the implementation. What we can now call “the old CPR” (of 2011) will be partially repealed on 8 January 2026. Still, numerous articles will remain in place until 8 January 2040 to ensure the continuity of functioning of the EU construction products market.
During this transition, the EU Commission will publish a standardisation request for building glass. This will be followed by Harmonised Technical Specifications for all concerned glazing products; these are expected to be mostly EU standards, either new ones that will need to be drafted or existing ones that will be revised.
Glass for Europe is committed to supporting its members in preparing for this new regulatory reality. The coming implementation will be crucial to ensuring that this new CPR can achieve its purpose by solving current standards citation issues, leading the sector towards more sustainability, and increasing the market’s efficiency through new digital means.
