- The awards are for clearness in the accounting and reports of greenhouse gas emissions, and their external verification.

San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, December 5, 2012 - Vitro, leading glass manufacturer in Mexico, received the GEI-1 award for being part of the choice group of companies that report and register their Greenhouse Gases (GEI given the abbreviation in Spanish) and carbon performance on their books. Vitro was also given the GEI-2 award for the verification of the 2009 and 2010 inventories carried out by an external agency.The acknowledgments were handed out on October 26, 2012, during the Awards Ceremony for the GEI Mexico Program organized by the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) and the Committee of Private Sector Studies for Sustainable Development (CESPEDES).Fernando Tudela Abad, Environmental Planning and Policy Assistant Secretary, Sandra Herrera Flores, Industrial Promotion and Standardization Assistant Secretary (both from the SEMARNAT), and Irma Gómez Cavazos, CESPEDES Executive Officer, attended the ceremony.“This distinction is a fair acknowledgment of the work that is being done by the organization for the benefit of the environment, particularly by preparing the greenhouse gas emission inventory, in strict adherence to international standards,” said Raúl González Sáenz, Vitro Quality, Safety and Environmental Manager.He added that at present Vitro is fully committed to sustainability through its different initiatives, “one of which is for us to voluntarily join this program, implementing projects in our plants that favor lowering and efficiently using fossil fuel and electricity, which are the main precursors of greenhouse gases”.Vitro works actively to improve its environmental surroundings through different eco-efficiency projects created its collaborators.Through the GEI Mexico Program, companies responsibly and voluntarily include their greenhouse gas emissions in their accounting and reports, which help them improve their environmental performance and boost their competitiveness.In line with its care of the environment, Vitro also seeks to create value by recycling glass and exploiting water more efficiently at its plants.Vitro El Manzano Park, Chipinque Ecological Park and Wildlife Organization (Organización Vida Silvestre) stand out among the conservation efforts that the company is supporting today.
