National Windscreens, the UK’s largest independently owned windscreen replacement and repair specialist, has seen a significant rise in sales following strategic investment in its specialist glazing service.

A rise of over 30% in the South and South West regions has been attributed to increased business from the company’s dedicated bus and coach glazing service.Regional Sales and Marketing Director, Martyn Bennett, elaborates, “National Windscreens is known nationwide for its car, van and truck glazing services, but is also one of the leading providers of bus and coach glazing services. “In recent years we have significantly invested in specialist vans, equipment and people in recognition of the potential revenue that can be generated by offering this specialist service and our strategy is paying off.”

National Windscreens operates a ‘Repair First’ policy meaning wherever possible it will repair damaged windscreens, but in the event that the glass needs replacing it has access to a wide range of replacement bus and coach stock, as Chris Robbens, General Manager at National Windscreens’ Dartford specialist glazing centre, explains: “We work closely with specialist glazing supplier, PSV, and our colleagues in the South West operate a dedicated storage facility located in Bristol to ensure we can always access the most widely used bus and coach windscreens, as well as side windows and rear windscreens.”

National Windscreens aims to provide a same day/next day response time for all bus and coach customers by providing a mobile fast-fit service that uses replacement glazing from its extensive stock-holding and fast curing urethane to ensure quick bonding and windscreen attachment – ensuring off-road time is kept to an absolute minimum. The company provides a dedicated call answering team who have all been specifically trained to deal with enquiries regarding bus and coach glazing and employs 30 specialist glazing technicians across the South who have all been instructed in the use of SUMO lifting equipment. This dedicated service has resulted in a number of high-profile contracts, including being the preferred installer for all London Buses through a contract with Transport for London.

Chris says, “London Buses operates more than 7,500 buses that carry around six million passengers each weekday. It’s vital that we provide the swiftest service possible in order to help keep London moving.” The company is now actively looking to expand its client base in this sector following its recent success, as Martyn explains, “Bus and coach glazing accounted for over £2m sales in the South West alone in 2013 and we’re confident that our increased capacity and superior response time will lead to more opportunities in the future.” National Windscreens works closely with a number of the UK’s leading insurance providers, including specialist insurers, to ensure its services are easily accessible to policy holders and its experience of the fleet sector means it can provide a first-class service to all bus and coach fleets, as well as cars and vans. Its mobile glazing technicians work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and it also operates the largest fitting centre network in is field, with 108 branches throughout the UK.
