Glass – North America Awarded Five ENERGY STAR® Plant Certifications. Only U.S. glass container manufacturer to earn recognition.

Date: 13 October 2014

Ardagh Group, a leading producer of glass containers for the food and beverage industries in the United States, was awarded five ENERGY STAR® plant certifications for superior energy performance from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

As a result of certifying five facilities in 2014, Ardagh Group has also received special recognition as a Member of the EPA’s Certification Nation.

The five Ardagh Group, Glass – North America plants, located in Burlington, Wis.; Dunkirk, Ind.; Madera, Calif.; Milford, Mass.; and Sapulpa, Okla., were the only U.S. glass container facilities in the U.S. to earn this recognition. This places them within the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.

“Ardagh Group is honored to be recognized for five ENERGY STAR certifications in 2014,” said John Riordan, President and CEO of Ardagh Group’s North American Glass division. “We’ve made significant contributions across our organization to embrace energy efficiency and achieve company-wide sustainability initiatives, and this award proves our hard work and dedication to these processes and procedures.”

Ardagh Group’s five recognized facilities have improved energy performance by upgrading and optimizing furnaces, utilizing recycled glass, installing energy-efficient lighting fixtures and repairing air compressor leaks, among several other energy-saving initiatives.

“What we’re really celebrating this year are the achievements of the businesses and organizations that work every day to manage their building’s energy use,” said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “Together, their top-performing properties have achieved significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, as well as cost savings for our cities, our schools, and the businesses that power America’s economy.”

Commercial buildings that earn the EPA’s ENERGY STAR use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and are responsible for 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Since 1999, more than 24,000 commercial buildings and industrial plants have earned the EPA’s ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance, with eight Ardagh Group, Glass – North America facilities receiving 18 certifications since 2010.
