Four Korean glass artists joined hands to stage a "rare" exhibition of glass art works thanks to a Gallery Sklo, the first and the only gallery specializing in glass sculptures and objects in the nation.

The pioneering and leading local artists in the glass area are Park Sung-Won, professor at the Korean National University of Arts; Kim Hyung-Jong, assistance professor in Dept. of Environmental Art & Design at Nam Seoul University; Kim Dong-Wook, president of studio "DIAN"; and Kim Joon-Yong, professor of Kookmin University and owner of the Joon Glass studio.Opened Dec. 9, 2004 at Gallery Sklo's exhibition room in Yaksu-dong in northern part of Seoul, the first glass art exhibition by local artists — "The Exhibition of Four Korean Glass Artists" — will run until Jan. 23, 2005.Scores of items of glass art — sculptures and other objects — are on the show to commemorate the opening of Gallery Sklo a year ago.About 100 guests attended the opening reception held at 5:30 p.m. and lasted late into the evening of the day.Well-known figures included Park Ji-Man, son of late President Park Chung-Hee.

"The exhibition is expected to serve as a moment to introduce glass arts to the general public in South Korea were glass arts are at its incipient stage," Kim Hyo-Jung, director of Gallery Sklo said about the event.

Kim said that the Korean artists are trying to expand the realm of glass arts from craft and small objects into various applications of glass sculptures.

Through this exhibition, the gallery audience will have a chance to view expanded space installation arts of more progressive glass works by these artists in the nation, Kim added.

(AGC) of Japan has solved problems in lowering the defect-free rate for the production of fifth- and sixth-generation (5G, 6G) glass substrates, and is expected to tap the market with products with higher price competitiveness in 2006 to grab more market share in the 6G substrate businessIn addition, Wang added, the aggressive capacity added by both Corning of the U.S., the world's No. 1 substrate supplier, and AGC, the No. 2, will lead to price drops for glass substrates and will especially benefit TV panel makers such as AU Optronics Corp. (AUO) and Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp. (CMO) in TaiwanCurrently, Wang pointed out, a 6G substrate is priced at about 27,000 to 30,000 Japanese yen, about 1,000 to 2,000 yen lower than in the third quarter of 2005.
