An almost full-scale model of a float bath forms the centre of a major new float glass display at the Deutsches Museum in Munich.

The exhibit is backed up by a multi-media display, allowing visitors to call up information and film on other parts of the process, including details of the raw materials, the melting process, the cooling lehr and the cutting operation. There is further information about glass processing with a display of products such as safety glass and mirrors, plus a large exhibit featuring Munich's Herz-Jesu-Church which has façades and a roof made entirely of glass. The museum, which attracts more than 1m visitors a year, launched the display at the beginning of November. It forms part of the Glass Technology section and replaces a much smaller exhibit which simply had illustrations of a float line and a diagram of the process. This new display has been supported by most of Germany's major glass manufacturers as well as many private individuals.
