Continuing its dedication to educating the industry and preparing manufacturers for upcoming ENERGY STAR® changes, Edgetech I.

G. will bring the popular Edgetech University booth theme to the Canadian Window and Door Manufacturers Associations’ Win-Door North America 2009, November 17-19 in Toronto.Because of its great success at GlassBuild 2009, Edgetech has also added the Architectural Learning Center to its booth #1717 located in Win-Door’s IG Alley.

“The Architectural Learning Center is a great fit for Win-Door where IG manufacturers are extremely interested in learning more about products that contribute to the energy efficiency and long-term durability of their systems,” said Erin Johnson, director of marketing for Edgetech I.G. “The entire idea of Edgetech University is centered around providing customers with all of the tools they need to meet and exceed increasingly stringent regulations. It’s all about being educated and seizing opportunities whenever possible.”

Edgetech’s Architectural Learning Center features a live curtain wall test chamber that demonstrates Super Spacer® TriSeal’s ability to withstand wind-speed equivalents of more than 300 mph (500 kph) with minimal compressions of less than 1 mm. At its booth, Edgetech will also provide valuable information about maximizing energy savings with silicone technologies, SustainaBLOCK™ setting blocks, Super Spacer’s ease of use and long-term durability in triple-pane systems, SustainaView® Window Technology and the company’s newly updated IG Certification Manual, which now includes Canadian ENERGY STAR® criteria and procedures.

Edgetech worked closely with Marg Webb, executive director for the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA), to complete the updated manual, which includes valuable timelines, step-by-step instructions to complete certification, a glossary of related terms and a directory of certification agencies.

According to Webb, it is expected that changes to ENERGY STAR® criteria in Canada will go smoothly since, under the Canadian Standards Association CSA A440, IGMAC certification was already a requirement.

“I would estimate that around 85 percent of IG manufacturers in Canada have already obtained certification, so I don’t anticipate the rush to the labs like in the U.S.,” Webb said. “However, manufacturers need to be aware of the updates and how they impact their businesses – and the few who have not yet certified are encouraged to do so.”

Johnson added that Edgetech’s focus on energy efficiency and sustainability has been tremendously successful globally as manufacturers and law makers are seeking ways to drastically reduce heat loss through residential and commercial window systems. “In the past 18 months alone, we have installed more than 30 automated Super Spacer lines worldwide to help customers meet and exceed new guidelines for energy efficiency,” she said.
