DuPont Taiwan invited 130 students from 13 Kuan Yin junior high schools and elementary schools to the event.
The science camp was a collaborative effort between DuPont Taiwan and Yuan T. Lee Foundation Science Education For All. The program is one of roughly 90 worldwide being supported in 2002 by the DuPont Community Fund. The DuPont Community Fund was established to improve the quality of life and enhance the vitality of communities in which DuPont operates. Since 1990 this grassroots program, designed and implemented at DuPont sites, has provided more than USD 3 million to programs and organizations that address one or more of three key components of community sustainability social progress, economic success and environmental excellence.
Thirteen sets of Yuan T. Lee Discovery Books were donated to Kuan Yin schools at the opening of the science camp. Throughout the day, youngsters had an opportunity to engage in hands-on games and science experiments.
DuPont Taiwan President S. T. Tsay told the children that great and successful inventions usually come from small discoveries in daily life, which we tend to ignore. He urged students to look for ways that scientific innovations have improved their lives.
