Folienwerk Wolfen GmbH, with their premium laminating interlayer evguard®, shared information that their Head of Research and Development, Dr.Steffen Bornemann presented a topic about advanced methods for damage analysis of glass laminates under dynamic loads at GLASBAU 2023 held on 16-17.03 in Dresden, Germany.
Advanced methods for damage analysis of glass laminates under dynamic loads
Abstract
Design and suitable material selection in glass laminate structures require the development and testing of efficient methods for strength assessment. Within the scope of this investigation, effective methods for the experimental and numerical investigations of float glass and glass laminate are further developed and presented. The sequences of crack pattern formation during the ball drop test are recorded by installing a high-speed camera. The novel, non-local peridynamics theory is used to simulate crack initiation. Different configurations of float glass plates (tin side, air side as contact site at ball drop) and variations of the embedding films (degree of cross-linking, film thickness) are tested and the results are presented systematically.
