Former Chairman and CEO of CRL Announces Return to the Industry; Supporting Glass & Glazing Companies, Education and New Initiatives.

Donald E. Friese, a renowned figure in the glass and glazing industry with over 60 years of experience, has announced his return to the industry he played a pivotal role in shaping, following six years of retirement. Mr. Friese is best known for his leadership as Chairman and CEO of C.R. Laurence Co., Inc. (CRL), where he guided the company through significant growth and strategic acquisitions before its sale to Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope in 2015.

During his retirement, Mr. Friese, along with his son DJ Friese, established the Friese Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to philanthropy. The foundation has supported a range of organizations, including the American Red Cross, USO, National Veterans Foundation, The Salvation Army, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Rancho San Antonio Boys Home, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and the National Glass Association (NGA).

Despite finding fulfillment in these philanthropic efforts, Mr. Friese has decided to re-engage with the glass and glazing industry, a field for which he has maintained a deep passion. His return will be marked by a focused yet limited involvement, where he plans to invest in education initiatives and serve as a strategic advisor to The Frameless Hardware Company (FHC).

"I have a deep love for this industry and immense gratitude for all it has given me," said Mr. Friese. "Now, it’s my turn to give back and contribute to its continued success."

This announcement signals Mr. Friese’s ongoing commitment to the industry that enabled him to become a self-made billionaire, underscoring his desire to nurture its growth and ensure its future prosperity.
