Corning Showcases Glass Innovation and New Products at SID Display Week 2012

Date: 4 June 2012

Announcements regarding ultra-slim flexible glass as well as EAGLE XG® Slim Glass Substrates CORNING, N.Y., May 31, 2012 – Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced its plans for the Society for Information Display’s (SID) Display Week in Boston June 3-8.

The Corning booth #123 will showcase the critical role of highly engineered specialty glass in addressing emerging display trends including: increased functionality from smaller, thinner, and lighter form factors; touch technology; and a more-diverse set of interconnected devices with higher performance and new application spaces. Corning will also make key announcements regarding its ultra-slim flexible glass (June 4) and EAGLE XG® Slim line of substrates (June 5).

“As handset, tablet, and notebook device manufacturers go thinner, Corning’s latest innovations in EAGLE XG Slim and ultra-slim flexible glass are extraordinarily well-positioned to meet these challenges and enable broader touch technology penetration,” said Dr. Peter Bocko, chief technology officer for Corning Glass Technologies.

The booth will feature product samples using both EAGLE XG Slim and ultra-slim flexible glass as well as Corning® Gorilla® Glass 2, the next generation of the popular, damage-resistant cover glass for consumer electronic devices. A multi-touch 82-inch display showcasing Corning Gorilla Glass for large applications will also be on hand. Those interested in a live demonstration of Gorilla Glass 2 can visit the booth for more information on demo times.

“Corning Gorilla Glass continues to enjoy excellent market acceptance across mobile device industries. It remains the cover glass of choice, currently on more than 750 products manufactured by 33 major brands, totaling more than 750 million devices worldwide,” said James R. Steiner, senior vice president and general manager, Corning Specialty Materials.

In celebration of SID’s 50th anniversary and Corning’s longstanding relationship with SID, Corning Gorilla Glass will sponsor an event at the Boston Museum of Science on Wednesday, June 6 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased at the SID Registration Desk during Display Week.

In addition, Display Week attendees can engage with Corning technology experts in the booth and at other events throughout the conference.

Dr. Bocko, one of the foremost glass experts in the display industry, will deliver the keynote at the SID Investor Conference on June 5. He will discuss the latest advances in displays and emerging trends in the industry. Dr. Bocko will also present a technical paper – “The Role of Glass in Advanced Displays” – on Friday, June 8. John Bayne, Jr., vice president and general manager of high performance displays, will deliver a keynote presentation at the IMS Business Conference at SID on June 4. He will focus on the industry’s current challenges and how glassmakers are responding with new and enhanced compositions, including Corning Lotus™ Glass, optimized for OLED and next-generation LCD devices.

Several other Corning experts will be delivering technical presentations throughout the conference. Dr. Dipak Chowdhury, division vice president and program director of flexible substrates, will deliver remarks regarding ultra-slim flexible glass at the Exhibitor Forum on June 5 at 2 p.m. in Exhibit Hall B. Dr. Sean Garner, senior scientist, will also speak about ultra-slim flexible glass at 9 a.m. on June 6 at the flexible display manufacturing session.

“Display Week comes at just the right time,” said Bocko. “As the industry undergoes changes and faces obstacles, Corning looks forward to showcasing our innovative glasses and how each addresses tough technological challenges, to meet today’s – and tomorrow’s – most-stringent manufacturing requirements.”
