Date: 2 December 2003
Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) has announced today that it has concluded a license agreement with Nippon Sheet Glass (NSG) under a portfolio of Corning patents regarding molded glass components used in telecommunication applications and other products where compact, durable, high quality optical lens systems are required.
Terms of the agreement are not being disclosed. NSG joins the expanding list of companies that have taken a non-exclusive license under these important Corning patents.
Molded glass optical components replace conventional polishing and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining techniques traditionally used in the forming of glass lenses. In 2002 alone, more than 200 million glass molded optical lenses were manufactured worldwide. Corning continues licensing contract negotiations with firms in the digital and film camera, video and cell phone camera, DVD, printer, copier, scanner, business projector, automobile and telecommunication markets.
