China Glass Holdings Co., Ltd. has officially commenced construction of a state-of-the-art glass production facility in northeastern Egypt.

The 2.23-billion-yuan ($310 million) investment marks a significant step toward expanding glass manufacturing capabilities in the region.

Spanning 500,000 square meters, the facility is strategically located within the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (TEDA), approximately 120 kilometers east of Cairo. Upon completion, the plant will feature a daily production capacity of 1,000 tons of float glass and 800 tons of ultra-clear rolled photovoltaic glass. This initiative is expected to generate roughly 1,000 new jobs, bolstering local economic development.

Waleid Gamal El-Dein, chairman of the General Authority of Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone, emphasized the project's alignment with Egypt’s goals of advancing the glass industry, supporting renewable energy initiatives, reducing reliance on imports, and generating foreign currency.

Cai Guo, vice president of China Glass Holdings, revealed that the facility is on track to begin operations by the end of 2025.

Li Daixin, chairman of China-Africa TEDA Investment Co., Ltd., highlighted the plant’s role in establishing a modern glass production line designed to enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian glass products. It is set to meet rising demand for energy-efficient construction materials and advanced glass products in Egypt and neighboring regions.

This landmark project underscores the growing collaboration between China and Egypt in industrial and economic development, paving the way for innovation in glass manufacturing while supporting sustainable growth in the North African market.
