Pleotint, LLC, announced that five Children’s Learning Adventure® childcare centers in Dallas, Houston and Phoenix have been constructed with Suntuitive® self-tinting glass, which was specified for its ability to create more comfortable and safer work and play environments by passively adapting to changes in temperature and direct sunlight.  Photos courtesy of Children’s Learning AdventureAccording to Tom Young, construction administration manager for Children’s Learning Adventure, Suntuitive glass was selected specifically to address employee complaints about intense sunlight and heat, which are common problems in southwestern climates.

Before discovering Suntuitive glass, Young said the childcare centers relied on automatic window blinds in common areas and window shades in classrooms to mitigate problems with sunlight and heat.

“The blinds and shades reduced some unwanted heat, but they limited natural light and hindered views into and out of our buildings,” Young said. “With Suntuitive glass, we were not only able to remove those devices, but also install bigger windows to increase visibility and daylighting.”

“We also were considering other dynamic glass technologies, but what attracted us to Suntuitive glass was its simplicity,” Young added. “Because the glass passively adapts throughout the day, we do not have to worry about constantly adjusting the tint levels or shades in various rooms.”

“For the first few projects, we used Suntuitive glass on the south-, west-, and east-facing elevations because they receive the most direct sunlight and heat throughout the day,” Young said. “Now that we better understand the benefits of Suntuitive glass, and based on feedback from our employees and clients, we’re installing it on northern exposures, too. We already have four more locations in the works.”

Another goal of Children’s Learning Adventure was to improve security at its facilities, which was accomplished with the clear view provided by Suntuitive glass.

Curtis Liposcak, president of Pleotint, said, “We are the first to be breaking ground on a new dimension of window safety. By preserving the view, people are better able to maintain a vigilant, unobstructed watch of the outdoors. This ability to make better use of your window system enhances safety for people and property, both inside and outside of the building.”

“Children’s Learning Adventures childcare centers offer important infant, preschool, and afterschool programs,” Liposcak added. “We hope our glass enhances the children’s learning and playing with plenty of views and daylight in a safe environment.”
