The company has grown as it followed those clients' expansions across the nation and added customers, said Roger O'Shaughnessy, president, CEO and majority owner of the company. Cardinal plans to open two $100 million factories, in Durant, Okla., and Lewis County, Wash. The plants will produce float glass; a commodity type of single-pane glass that's used in windows, mirrors and picture frames. The float glass is shipped to other Cardinal factories and converted into higher-end products.
The Durant factory, for example, will supply a $37 million Cardinal plant that opened in June in Waxahachie, Texas, that applies coatings to improve durability.
The other new plants are $20 million factories in Odell, Ore., and Vinton, Va., that will make insulated glass -- a glass sandwich filled with gas to improve energy efficiency.
With the new plants, Cardinal will have more than 20 factories around the country and more than 4,500 employees
