Allied Celebrates OHSAS 18001 Accreditation

Date: 29 November 2012

Allied Glass Containers Ltd is proud to have officially received accreditation to the health and safety management standard BS OHSAS 18001.

The company was audited for one week by BSI, who officially awarded Allied Glass the certificate on 31st October 2012. BS OHSAS 18001 is the benchmark standard for health and safety management systems.  Attaining this prestigious award was one of Allied Glass’ main objectives for 2012.

In order to achieve this standard, Allied Glass has thoroughly reviewed its operations and overall approach to health and safety. The company has strengthened its Health and Safety and Human Resources teams, bringing in additional well-qualified professionals to supplement the existing teams. The teams have worked hard to develop a robust system for identifying hazards, controlling risks, developing safe systems of work, and delivering training to ensure that employees are able to work safely at all times. The results are clear to see, as departmental performance has improved and the number of accidents and incidents has fallen.

John Naughton, Allied Glass’ Technical Director, said: "We are delighted to have achieved BS OHSAS 18001 accreditation as it underlines our commitment to improvement in all areas of our business. Our employees are among the most talented in the industry and our most valuable asset, and, as such, their well-being is something that we take very seriously. Credit goes to the Health and Safety Management team for their hard work, but also to everyone else at Allied Glass - without their involvement and buy-in an achievement such as this would not have been possible."
